En sa qualité de représentant de la Corman Construction Company (Tong Bang), une société écran du Mansudae Overseas Project (MOP) Group, entité désignée par les Nations unies (également connue sous le nom de Mansudae Art Studio), Im Song Sun participe au contournement des sanctions en violation des dispositions des résolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013), 2094 (2013), 2270 (2016), 2321 (2016), 2356 (2017), 2371 (2017), 2375 (2017) ou 2397 (2017) du CSNU. Il a dirigé des activités de construction de cette société au Sénégal et a reçu des paiements sur les marchés attribués au MOP et à la Corman Construction; il est donc responsable d’activités financières menées en soutien aux programmes nucléaires et balistiques de la RPDC. Le gouvernement américain a sanctionné Im Song Sun en 2023 pour des raisons similaires. En mars 2024, le groupe d’experts des Nations unies a indiqué que les artistes liés au Mansudae Overseas Project Group continuaient à exercer leurs activités à l’étranger.
