La prison de Rajaee Shahr est connue pour le non-respect des droits de l’homme, qui se traduit notamment par des tortures physiques et psychologiques graves infligées aux prisonniers politiques et aux prisonniers d’opinion, ainsi que par des exécutions de masse sans procès équitable depuis la révolution islamique en 1979. Des centaines de détenus, y compris des enfants, ont été gravement maltraités à la prison de Rajaee Shahr à la suite des manifestations de novembre 2019. Des informations crédibles font état de nombreux cas de torture et d’autres formes de peines cruelles, dont des cas concernant des mineurs. Depuis le début des manifestations de 2022/2023, de nombreux opposants y ont été incarcérés arbitrairement dans des conditions que certains journalistes incarcérés ont décrites comme dangereuses et difficilement vivables.
