In his position as the First Deputy Head of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Belarus, Aliaksandr Ahafonau is responsible for politically motivated prosecutions and arrests of the presidential candidate Siarhei Tsikhanousky – opposition activist and husband of presidential candidate Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya. and other political activists, including Mikalai Statkevich and Dzmitry Kazlou. Siarhei Tsikhanousky, Dzmitry Kazlou, and Mikalai Statkevich are recognised as political prisoners by Viasna, a Belarussian human rights organisation. He is therefore responsible for the repression of civil society and democratic opposition.

Dans ses fonctions de premier adjoint au chef du département principal d’investigation du comité d’enquête de Biélorussie, Aliaksandr Ahafonaù est responsable de poursuites et d’arrestations politiquement motivées; celle du candidat à l’élection présidentielle Siarheï Tsikhanoùsky, militant de l’opposition et époux de la candidate à l’élection présidentielle Sviatlana Tsikhanoùskaya, ainsi que celle d’autres militants politiques, dont Mikalaï Statkevitch et Dzmitry Kazloù. Siarheï Tsikhanoùsky, Dzmitry Kazloù, et Mikalaï Statkevitch sont reconnus comme prisonniers politiques par Viasna, une organisation biélorusse de défense des droits de l’homme.
