Despite being registered as an autonomous non-profit organisation, the Institute for Internet Development was founded with the support of the Russian presidential administration, is closely linked to the Russian Government and receives most of its funding from the Russian Government. Before his nomination as Director General of the Institute for Internet Development, Alexey Goreslavsky worked in the Russian presidential administration and was regarded as “the Kremlin’s curator of the Internet”. Under Alexey Goreslavsky’s direction, the Institute for Internet Development has become an essential element of the Kremlin’s propaganda about the war in Ukraine. It is responsible for funding numerous projects which justify and glorify the war, such as pro-war movies, series and Internet projects. It also awarded a price to pro-Kremlin war correspondents, who spread propaganda about the operational situation on the battlefield.
