The Myanmar Directorate of Defense Industries is a state-owned enterprise (SOE) under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) that also acts as the only Myanmar entity in charge of arms production for the Myanmar Armed Forces (Tatmadaw). The Directorate of Defense Industries is headed by Lt-Gen. Thein Htay, a member of the Myanmar military. It falls under the authority of the Commander-in-chief of the Tatmadaw, EU-listed Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing and is linked to several military- linked or military- appointed figures, such as the commander-in-chief and his deputy. As such, the Directorate of Defense Industries is organically under the control of the Myanmar Armed Forces including since the 1 Feb 2021coup. It enables the Myanmar military to carry out violence against Myanmar civilians and therefore plays a key role in fuelling the spiral of violence that has engulfed Myanmar since the coup.

La direction des industries de la défense est dirigée par le général de corps d’armée Thein Htay, membre de l’armée du Myanmar. Elle relève de l’autorité du commandant en chef de la Tatmadaw, le généralissime Min Aung Hlaing, inscrit sur la liste de l’UE, et est liée à plusieurs personnalités liées à l’armée ou nommées par elle, telles que le commandant en chef et son adjoint. À ce titre, la direction des industries de la défense est placée sous le contrôle des forces armées du Myanmar, y compris depuis le coup d’État du 1er février 2021. Elle permet à l’armée du Myanmar de commettre des violences à l’encontre des civils du pays et joue donc un rôle essentiel pour ce qui est d’alimenter la spirale de violence dans laquelle le Myanmar est plongé depuis le coup d’État.
