The Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) is an institution affiliated to the Ministry of Defense, which is involved in supervising the modernization of various types of weapons, especially non-conventional weapons (chemical, biological, etc.) and developing weapons to enhance Syria’s defense capabilities. It provides training and support as part of the Syrian chemical weapons sector. The Scientific Studies and Research Center has been subject to US and EU sanctions since 2007.
