President of the National Assembly of Nicaragua since Jan 2017 and member of the national direction of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) since 1996. In his position as the President of the National Assembly of Nicaragua, he is responsible for promoting the adoption of several repressive legal acts, among them an amnesty law that precludes any investigation into the perpetrators of massive human rights violations in 2018, laws undermining freedom and democratic process in Nicaragua, and laws depriving the civil rights of civilians, including the Bishop of Matagalpa, Rolando José Álvarez Lagos. He is therefore responsible for the repression of civil society, democratic opposition, representatives of the Church, as well as for seriously undermining democracy and the rule of law in Nicaragua.
Président de l’Assemblée nationale du Nicaragua depuis janvier 2017 et membre de la direction nationale du Front sandiniste de libération nationale (FSLN) depuis 1996. En sa qualité de président de l’Assemblée nationale du Nicaragua, il est responsable d’avoir agi en faveur de l’adoption de plusieurs actes juridiques répressifs, dont une loi d’amnistie qui empêche toute enquête sur les auteurs des violations massives des droits de l’homme en 2018, de lois portant atteinte à la liberté et au processus démocratique au Nicaragua, ainsi que de lois privant de leurs droits civils des civils, parmi lesquels l’évêque de Matagalpa, Rolando José Álvarez Lagos. Il est donc responsable de la répression à l’égard de la société civile, de l’opposition démocratique et de représentants de l’Église, ainsi que de graves atteintes à la démocratie et à l’état de droit au Nicaragua.
