Syriatel

Syriatel is a private mobile provider in Syria, since its founding in 2000. In 1998, the Syrian Ministry of Transportation issued a mock tender to operate the mobile phone sector in which Rami Makhlouf appeared as a partner of the Egyptian multi-millionaire Naguib Sawiris of Orascom. However, Makhlouf soon had a dispute with Sawiris, and the funds of the Egyptian company in Syria were confiscated and placed under the legal guardianship of Ihab Makhlouf, Rami’s brother, and Nader Kalai, Makhlouf’s business manager. However, the threat of resorting to international litigation prompted the announcement of an amicable solution to the dispute in July 2003 such that Syriatel, owned by Makhlouf, became one of two mobile phone operators in Syria. Its general manager is Magda Saqr. Syriatel has been placed on US and EU sanctions lists.

سيريتل هي إحدى الشركات المشغلة للهاتف المحمول (الخليوي) في سوريا. منذ تأسيسها عام 2000 م. في سنة 1998 طرحت وزارة المواصلات السورية مناقصة صورية لتشغيل قطاع الهاتف المحمول، ظهر فيها رامي مخلوف كشريك لشركة أوراسكوم المصرية المليونير نجيب ساويروس، لكن مخلوف ما لبث ان اختلف مع ساويروس فصودرت أموال الشركة المصرية في سوريا، ووضع عليها حارسان قضائيان هما إيهاب مخلوف شقيق رامي، ونادر قلعي مدير أعمال رامي مخلوف. لكن التهديد باللجوء إلى التحكيم الدولي دفع للإعلان عن حل ودي للخلاف في يوليو 2003، بحيث باتت شركة سيرياتل التي يمتلكها مخلوف إحدى شركتين تشغلان الهاتف المحمول في سوريا. المدير العام للشركة: ماجدة صقر. مدرجة في قوائم العقوبات الأمريكية. مدرجة في قوائم العقوبات الأوروبية شملتها العقوبات البريطانية في 26/09/2011
